Residential Lock-Out

Early last night firefighters from CO’s 1 and 2 were dispatched to the unusual call of a resident locked inside their apartment. After assessing the locking mechanism it was determined that the deadbolt had detached from the lock mechanism while in the locked position, firmly preventing the door from being opened. Utilizing Tower 2, Co 2 firefighters entered the third floor apartment through the balcony door, which was thankfully opened by the resident inside. Once at the locked door they began working on the lock from inside the apartment while Co 1 firefighters worked on the outside. After a bit of tool work by firefighters on both sides of the door working in tandem, the deadbolt was slowly worked out of the locked position and the door was opened with next to no damage. Boonton Recovery

As 2022 ended and 2023 began, Co1’s dive team, along with teams from Parsippany Rescue and Recovery, Ringwood Underwater Search and Recovery, Morris County Sheriff, and the Boonton Fire Department spent the holiday weekend working to recover two ice fisherman who had unfortunately drowned when the ice gave way. After an exhaustive search one victim was recovered Saturday night (New Years Eve), but the search for the second victim was halted due to rapidly deteriorating weather conditions and difficulty in accessing the dive site by flashlight and portable lights. Not to be deterred, the search was resumed the next day and divers were able to recover the second victim (New Years Day). As with all other recoveries we are involved in, the members of the Co 1 Dive Team extend their condolences to the families of the lost.
