Sloatsburg Recycling Fire

Yesterday afternoon, Fire Companies 1 for an Engine and 2 for FAST Team were requested as mutual aid into Sloatsburg, NY for a working fire at a commercial recycling facility.

Upon arrival of first due units, firefighters encountered heavy fire inside the transfer station building with additional fire involving heavy equipment located within the structure.

Rescue Engine 117’s crew was ordered to establish a water supply, deploying approximately 1,000 feet of 5-inch supply line from the nearest hydrant to the scene. Engine 117 then supplied Suffern FD’s Tiller, 19-99, with water for master stream operations.

After securing the water supply, 117’s crew transitioned to fire attack operations with Sloatsburg and Suffern firefighters, coordinating with heavy equipment operators who excavated the burning material, allowing firefighters to access the deep-seated fire.

After operating for approximately 3 hours, a second crew from Company 1 responded to assist 117’s crew with breaking down and packing the supply line and equipment used.

Company 1 operated on scene for approximately 4 hours before returning to the Township. Additional Rockland County fire departments continued to operators into the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Job well done by Sloatsburg FD and all mutual aid companies who operated at this challenging incident.
