September 11th

18 years later our actions as firefighters serve as a reminder that in the darkest days there is good in the world. As posted last week the Mahwah FD Exempt Association continues to put out the flags to honor the sacrifices made. Tomorrow we remember all those lost in the attack of September 11, 2001 at 7pm. Please join the community tomorrow by the Mahwah Train Station.

Drill Night: Flashover

Tonight Mahwah Firefighters went to the Bergen Fire Academy for flashover training. Simply put a flashover is when the gases inside of burning room suddenly ignite. This is an extremely dangerous situation for firefighters to be in and may only leave them with a few seconds to get out of the area. This can be simulated at the academy and allows firefighters to learn the signs that one is imminent and what to do in that situation. The video below shows some of the training that took place tonight.
