Today Company 1 firefighters responded with Marine 1 to the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford to assist with a fire that had occurred early this morning. After extinguishing a fire on the roof firefighters found that the ski slope was filled with smoke and had requested Marine 1 to assist with removing the smoke from the building.

On Sunday, June 6th, the Co # 1 Dive Team received a call from Mahwah PD asking if our divers were available to search for a cell phone a Mahwah resident had just lost in Winter’s Pond, right under the bridge. Happy to help, we offered to deploy a diver to quickly check under the bridge in the area the resident thought the phone went, hoping for a quick find. The ambient temperature was over 90-degrees that day, so we limited operational time for diver safety. After submerging, the diver discovered that the base of the spillway dam under the bridge was packed with over a foot of branches and silt, making searching difficult. Despite searching for over 30 minutes, the search was called off in favor of coming back later in the week with more resources. This evening Mahwah Fire responded to the 287 flyover for a rolled over tractor trailer. The driver had self-rescued and was uninjured, but the truck was leaking fuel. Fire Companies 1, 2, and 4 worked to contain the fuel and EMS examined the driver. The scene was then turned over to the State Police and DOT.

Yesterday afternoon Mahwah Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the Masonicus section of town. Engine 115 had the role of 2nd due engine, found a nearby hydrant and laid into the first due engine with a water supply. Res1cue responded as well for additional manpower to the scene. Company 1 prides ourselves for staying “Loyal To Our Duty” for over 100 years.
