Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Ramsey House Fire

Last evening at approximately 9:45pm, Fire Rescue Co.1 was requested as mutual aid for an engine into Ramsey for a working house fire. Engine 115 responded and once on scene assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. During the incident, we were also requested to send an additional engine to standby at Ramsey Fire Headquarters. Engine 117 fulfilled this request and stood by with Waldwick’s Tower Ladder and Franklin Lakes engine. Job well done by the Ramsey FD who were faced with heavy fire conditions on arrival.

Annual Library Touch A Truck

On Tuesday evening the Mahwah Fire Dept. went to the Township Library for the annual touch a truck and story time as part of fire prevention month. At the end of the evening, Co.1’s very own Tommy Murphy hosted a firefighter themed story time for the children. This was another great community event that allowed us to spend time with our residents and showcase our equipment.

Marine-1 Responds to Orangeburg

Early this morning, Company 1 was requested mutual aid by the Orangeburg NY Fire Dept. who were on scene of a machinery fire in a large commercial building. Upon arrival of RS-1 with Marine-1, set up a mechanical ventilation operation using the large fan on the boat to help evacuate the heavy smoke condition from the building. Our crew operated for around an hour before returning to the Township. Job well done goes out to the Orangeburg NY FD & their Mutual Aid partners for a quick knock down.

Burning Electrical Odor

At around 3AM this morning, Rescue Engine 117, Rescue 1, Engine 217, and Air 3, Responded to a residence for a burning electrical odor. After investigating firefighters determined the source which was a USB hub.

287 Entrapment

This afternoon, Rescue 1, Rescue Engine 117, along with Fire Companies 2, 4, EMS, and PD responded to 287 South for an MVA with entrapment. Upon arrival Rescue 1’s crew using the jaws of life swiftly removed the passenger door extricating the patient and turned them over to EMS. All units returned to quarters within an hour.
