Earlier this week Rescue 1’s Dive Team responded to the Ramapo River to assist the Mahwah Police with recovering evidence. After an hour of searching the river bottom, divers had recovered items that are believed to be evidence in an ongoing investigation

At around 5am this morning Fire Companies 1, 2, and 3 responded to Franklin Turnpike for a freon leak. Once on scene Fire crews found that a line had ruptured and was leaking freon. After working quickly to secure the leak crews vented affected area and monitored the situation. After approximately 2 hours fire crews had started returning to quarters. 

At around 12:45 this morning Rescue 1 and Fire Company 2 responded to North Central Avenue for a single car accident with an entrapped driver. Once on scene Rescue 1 found that the vehicle had struck a utility pole and worked quickly to extricate the driver. After about 30 minutes all units had returned to quarters. 

Shortly before 3 this afternoon Fire Companies 1, 2, 3 and 4 responded to Courtland Trail for a burning smell inside of a home. Once on scene, the first arriving units found a strong burning smell coming from the basement and began searching for the source. After discovering this issue, some smoldering insulation, fire crews overhauled the affected area and secured the issue. After about an hour all crews had began returning to quarters.

Last night at around 10PM, Fire Companies 1 and 2 were dispatched to the Marriott hotel for a fire alarm. Upon arrival, the first units on scene immediately noticed smoke emanating from the roof, and a moderate smoke condition inside of the indoor pool room. The alarm was immediately re-dispatched as a smoke condition and Companies 3 and 4 began their response. After about an hour of searching, a faulty air conditioner was found to be the cause. The air conditioner was shut down and all crews returned to quarters shortly after.

At around 4:45 this afternoon fire companies 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded to the Ramapo Ridge Shopping Center for a chimney fire. The first responding units found fire coming out from the top of the chimney, and worked quickly to extinguish it. After about one hour all units returned to quarters. 

At around 6:45 tonight Rescue 1 along with members from Fire Companies 2, 4 and EMS responded to 287 for an MVA with entrapment. Once arriving on scene Rescue 1 found an SUV flipped over on its side with the occupants entrapped. After stabilizing the vehicle the passengers were successfully extricated and transported to an area hospital. Today at 10:20am Mahwah Fire was requested to the Fardale section of town for a structure fire on Chapel Road. The first arriving chief had reported that was nothing showing from the outside. Upon further investigation he reported a smoke condition, and a possible basement fire. Units from multiple fire companies responded and quickly extinguished a small fire in the crawlspace. A FAST Team from Wyckoff also responded. All units returned quarters after about 2 hours. We would like to thank all of our VOLUNTEERS who continue to do great work and responded to both today’s and yesterday’s fire. The Mahwah Fire Department and also Mahwah EMS are 100% volunteer.

At around 11 this morning Fire Companies 1, 2, 3, 4, and EMS responded to Grove Street for a working structure fire. Arriving units found that an enclosed trailer located behind the residence has caught on fire. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and ensure that it did not spread to the adjacent home. After roughly two hours all units had returned to quarters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. 

This month Company 1 responded to a total of 41 calls for service. There were 19 fire alarms, 3 CO alarms, 2 smells of smoke, 6 smells of gas, 3 elevator rescues, 2 EMS Assists, 1 Gasoline spill, 1 sign fire, and we were dispatched to 3 structure fires.
