On June 27th, 1919 the Mahwah Fire Department was admitted to the New York-New Jersey Volunteer Firemen s Association. That was a direct reflection of the hard work our founders put in. In less than five years from its creation, the Mahwah Fire Department was recognized as a peer to the older more established departments in New Jersey and New York.

This June despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers of Mahwah Fire Company 1 responded to 37 calls for service. 4 Brush Fires 1 Carbon monoxide Alarm 2 Dispatched Structure Fires 3 EMS Assists 1 Elevator Rescue 23 Fire Alarms 2 Gas Leaks 1 Mutual Aid Request For The Airboat As always the 100% volunteer members of Mahwah Fire are ready t respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

At around 11:30 this morning Company 1’s dive team was requested to Suffern New York to assist with a victim recovery in one of the village’s waterways. Divers from Mahwah, Stony Point, and Theils were able to recover the victim and turn them over to Rockland County investigators.
On October 17th, 1973 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah was renamed Mahwah Firemen Turnpike in honor of the township’s volunteer firefighters. Mayor Livingstone Goodman (upper right) took part in the dedication ceremonies along with Fire Chief Edward Wysocki (upper left), Joe Girvan (lower left), battalion chief, and Harold Pfitzner, first assistant.

Fire Company 1’s airboat is currently responding to Hackensack *****UPDATED***** Company 1’s airboat, Marine 1, responded to South River Street to assist the Hackensack Fire Department. Hackensack firefighters had extinguished a fire in a warehouse and needed assistance removing the smoke.

At around 5AM this morning fire companies 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded to Lawrence Road for an electrical fire. After arriving on scene firefighters extinguished the fire and removed the smoke from the area.
