This year Company 1 responded to 304 calls for service. These calls were 7 boiler issues, 5 brush fires, 4 burning smells, 1 chimney fire, 15 carbon monoxide alarms, 17 dispatched structure fires, 2 dryer fires, 1 dumpster fire, 12 EMS assists, 3 electrical issues, 9 elevator rescues, 15 extrications, 146 fire alarms, 2 fuel spills, 23 gas leaks, 2 grill fires, 1 HAZMAT call, 3 mutual aid requests for a fire, 1 mutual aid request for the fan boat, 1 mutual aid request for the dive team, 1 mutual aid request for a fast team, 3 oven fires, 1 rubbish fire, 9 smoke conditions, 5 calls for sparking wires, 6 smells of smoke, 2 stand-by’s, 1 technical rescue, 1 wash-down, 1 water rescue, 2 working fires, and 2 vehicle fires.   As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week. This December Company 1 responded to 35 calls for service. This month there were 3 boiler issues, 2 carbon monoxide alarms, 3 dispatched structure fires, 1 elevator rescue, 1 extrication, 17 fire alarms, 5 gas leaks, 1 smell of smoke, 1 working fire, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

This morning the township held its annual swearing-in ceremony for all of the fire department officers. We would like to congratulate Company 1’s 2018 officers Battalion Chief – Eddie Drejman Fire Captain – Chris Stricker Fire Lieutenants – Kevin Minogue and Tim Tedesco Rescue Captain – Eric Moritz Rescue Lieutenant – Charlie Brown

Each year the members of Company 1 spend countless hours training, most of which takes place on at our weekly drills on Wednesday nights. Many members also spend more time, including giving up entire weekends to complete advanced training courses. On this day 103 years ago Millard Cooper, Warren Ackerman, Mathias Carey, Raymond Dator, W. Dederick, Ray Edwards and many others, formed the first formal fire department in what was then Ho-Ho-Kus Township. Our first firehouse was located inside of Millard Cooper’s barn on Hillside Avenue, just 1 block from where our house currently sits. Cooper was also elected our first Fire Chief. Since then Fire Company 1, along with the other 4 fire companies have remained 100% volunteer and responded to thousands of call for service and hundreds of fires. These calls encompass everything from fire alarms, car crashes, rescues of all sorts, and also fires both in town and also our neighboring towns.  As of this posting company 1 has responded to 289 calls for service just this year.  As we look back on our last 103 years we remember the calls that stand out to us and
