Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Motor Vehicle Accident With Entrapment

At around 6:40 tonight Rescue 1, Fire Company 2, and EMS responded to MacArthur Boulevard for a Motor Vehicle Accident with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle and then successfully extricated the driver. After the driver was removed they were transported by Mahwah EMS to an area hospital.

During today’s storm members of Company 1 as well as the rest of Mahwah Fire stood by in their respective firehouses and responded to our community’s needs. As the first storm of the year winds down Mahwah Fire is reminding everyone to stay safe and use caution if traveling tonight.

December 2017 Calls for service

This December Company 1 responded to 35 calls for service. This month there were 3 boiler issues, 2 carbon monoxide alarms, 3 dispatched structure fires, 1 elevator rescue, 1 extrication, 17 fire alarms, 5 gas leaks, 1 smell of smoke, 1 working fire, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Always Training

Each year the members of Company 1 spend countless hours training, most of which takes place on at our weekly drills on Wednesday nights. Many members also spend more time, including giving up entire weekends to complete advanced training courses. Our 103rd Aniversery

On this day 103 years ago Millard Cooper, Warren Ackerman, Mathias Carey, Raymond Dator, W. Dederick, Ray Edwards and many others, formed the first formal fire department in what was then Ho-Ho-Kus Township. Our first firehouse was located inside of Millard Cooper’s barn on Hillside Avenue, just 1 block from where our house currently sits. Cooper was also elected our first Fire Chief. Since then Fire Company 1, along with the other 4 fire companies have remained 100% volunteer and responded to thousands of call for service and hundreds of fires.
