Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Airboat Responds to Hackensack

Fire Company 1’s airboat is currently responding to Hackensack *****UPDATED***** Company 1’s airboat, Marine 1, responded to South River Street to assist the Hackensack Fire Department. Hackensack firefighters had extinguished a fire in a warehouse and needed assistance removing the smoke.

Electrical Fire

At around 5AM this morning fire companies 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded to Lawrence Road for an electrical fire. After arriving on scene firefighters extinguished the fire and removed the smoke from the area.

May 2020 Calls for Service

This May despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteers of Mahwah Fire Company 1 responded to 18 calls for service. 3 EMS Assists 1 Elevator Rescue 8 Fire Alarms 2 Gas Leaks 1 Smell of Smoke 1 Technical Rescue 2 Working Fires As always the 100% volunteer members of Mahwah Fire are ready t respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Throwback Thursday: Our Mascots

Ed Gingras

Company 1 Fire and Rescue regrets to announce the passing of former firefighter Ed Gingras. Ed joined Company 1 on October 1, 1975 and served as company 1 ambulance lieutenant. He also served company 1 fire and rescue as secretary, lieutenant and battalion chief. Ed and his family moved in 1986 to Herbertsville New Jersey and he continued to volunteer as president and trustee there. He worked the pile after 9/11. Ed was a dedicated and loyal volunteer to the fire department and will be missed. The Mahwah fire department sends their condolences to the family.
