287 Car Fire

Early Saturday morning Rescue Company 1 along with Fire Companies 2, 4, and EMS were dispatched to Route 287 South for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment and fire. While enroute, units were advised that all occupants were out of the vehicle. Upon arrival, Rescue 1’s crew assisted Co.2 with the initial handline and also stretched a backup line. Engine 117 supplied additional water and manpower. Units operated for about 2 hours before returning to quarters.

Stage 3 Fire Restrictions

Monday, Oct. 21: As of 6 a.m., the New Jersey Forest Fire Service has implemented statewide Stage 3 Fire Restrictions statewide in response to prolonged dry conditions and increased wildfire activity. STAGE 3 FIRE RESTRICTIONS All fires will be prohibited unless contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas, gas, or electricity. No charcoal fires are allowed. Ramsey House Fire

Last evening at approximately 9:45pm, Fire Rescue Co.1 was requested as mutual aid for an engine into Ramsey for a working house fire. Engine 115 responded and once on scene assisted with extinguishment and overhaul. During the incident, we were also requested to send an additional engine to standby at Ramsey Fire Headquarters. Engine 117 fulfilled this request and stood by with Waldwick’s Tower Ladder and Franklin Lakes engine. Job well done by the Ramsey FD who were faced with heavy fire conditions on arrival.

Marine-1 Responds to Orangeburg

Early this morning, Company 1 was requested mutual aid by the Orangeburg NY Fire Dept. who were on scene of a machinery fire in a large commercial building. Upon arrival of RS-1 with Marine-1, set up a mechanical ventilation operation using the large fan on the boat to help evacuate the heavy smoke condition from the building. Our crew operated for around an hour before returning to the Township. Job well done goes out to the Orangeburg NY FD & their Mutual Aid partners for a quick knock down.

Route 17 Car Fire

Wednesday evening, Fire Co.1 was dispatched to Route 17 South near the Ramsey border for a reported car fire. 1st due Engine 117 arrived to find a working car fire in the left lane. The crew from E-117 immediately stretched a line and extinguished the fire. E-117 was joined by E-115, E-222, and Ramsey E-431. Rescue 1 stood by in quarters with a full crew. After initial knockdown, the vehicle was overhauled and a final extinguishment was performed. All units were clear of the scene within an hour.

Elevator Rescue and Smoke Condition

This afternoon, Rescue 1 responded to a business in the center of town for an elevator rescue. The trapped party was swiftly removed from the elevator without issue. While clearing the scene, the crew from R-1 noticed that the fire alarms in the building were now going off. R-1 immediately began investigating while Engine 117 assembled a crew to respond. After investigating, crews found a smoke condition in the basement but no fire. Crews continued to search the premises and found some smoldering rags which were removed and extinguished. The building was ventilated by the crew of E-117 and all units cleared the scene.

Live Burn At The Academy

This morning, Co.1 firefighters along with our colleagues from Ramsey Rescue, Ramsey Fire, and Allendale Fire participated in live burn training at the Bergen Fire Academy. Taking time to train with our Mutual Aid partners allows us to work more efficiently on the fireground at large scale operations. We would like to thank our dedicated members, our partners from our Mutual Aid, and the academy instructors who gave up their Saturday morning to take part in the invaluable training. We have enjoyed a long standing relationship with these departments and days like today help strengthen those bonds.

Mutual Aid and Garage Fire

Yesterday was a busy day for Co.1 Firefighters. At around 2pm Co.1 was requested into Ramsey for an Engine along with Co.2 FAST to assist Ramsey Fire dept. was operating at a working fire in a townhouse. Engine 117 responded and performed searches and overhaul before returning to the township. Later in the day just before 8pm, all 5 of Mahwah’s Fire companies were dispatched along with EMS to a structure fire on Sherwood Ave. Upon arrival crews were met with a fully involved detached garage that was in close proximity to the house. An aggressive attack prevented any extension into the home. Once the fire was knocked down, extensive overhaul was performed, and any remaining hot spots were wet down.
