Deep Fried Turkey Safety Tips

If you plan on deep frying a turkey latter this week remember to be safe. If you do have a greese fire remember these safety tips Leave the area and call 911 Only if it can be done safely, turn off the heat source (i.e. the burner) if possible Only if it can be done safely, cover the fire. Keep a pan lid handy when cooking with oil or grease and slide it over the pan to cut off the oxygen. If a pan lid isn’t available, soak a towel and ring out the excess water, placing the towel over the pan  Only if it can be done safely, once covered, slide the pan off the heat source if possible. Don’t attempt if there is a chance the pan could tip Do NOT put water on it, water will create a fire

Eventful Day For Mahwah Fire

Starting at around 6:30 this morning Rescue 1 along with Fire Companies 2, 4, and EMS responded to 287 South for a car crash with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene members Rescue found a car has crashed into the back of a tractor trailer. Rescue 1 worked for close to an hour to remove the driver from the car who was then transported to an area hospital. Later after the snow storm had started Fire Companies 1 and 3 responded to Masonicus Road for a car fire. After arriving on scene members Mahwah Fire found the car was fully involved in fire, the driver had already exited the vehicle.  Fire Companies 1 and 3 then worked to extinguish the fire and ensure that it was out.

Elevator Rescue Training

Company 1 members are always training, many times giving up part of their weekends to complete advanced training. This weekend company 1 members took part in an elevator rescue class where firefighters learned how to safely remove passengers from a disabled elevator. In the picture below, Firefighter Myhr practiced securing a disabled elevator.

This October Company 1 responded to 32 calls for service 1 Boiler Issue 1 Carbon Monoxide Alarm 2 Dispatched Structure Fires 2 EMS Assists 1 Elevator Rescue 16 Fire Alarms 1 Gas Leak 1 Mutual Aid Request For The Dive Team 1 Oven Fire, 3 Smoke Conditions 2 Smells Of Smoke 1 Vehicle Fire As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Franklin Turnpike Smoke Condition

At around 11:45 last night Fire Company 1 responded to Franklin Turnpike for a fire alarm. When firefighters arrived they found a heavy smoke condition inside the building, and called for additional firefighters. As crews searched the building they found that an unattended stove was causing the smoke. After shutting off the stove and removing the smoke firefighters began to return to quarters.
