HAZMAT And Other Calls

Tuesday proved to be an exceptionally busy day for the volunteer firefighters of Company 1.

At approximately 1:30pm, Companies 1 and 2 responded to a local business for a reported fluid spill. Engine 117’s crew was first arriving, securing the affected area and establishing a perimeter while awaiting Bergen County Hazmat.

While clearing from that incident, Companies 1, 2, and 3 were dispatched to a residence for a reported kitchen fire. Upon arrival, crews from Engine 117, Rescue 1, and Engine 320 found a malfunctioning stove with no active fire or smoke conditions. Firefighters secured the appliance before returning to quarters.

Later that evening, units were dispatched to Ramapo College for a reported smoke condition. Engine 117’s crew located the source, a pot left unattended on a stove. After securing the appliance, firefighters vented the smoke with assistance from Rescue 1 before returning to quarters.

Job well done by all members who handled multiple incidents throughout the day.
