Halon Leak

Yesterday afternoon, Rescue Engine 117, Rescue 1, RS-1, along with Fire Companies 2 and 3 were dispatched to a local business for an activated fire alarm.

Upon arrival, crews discovered the alarm activation was triggered by a leak from a Halon fire suppression system. Company 1 firefighters immediately began air monitoring operations and securing the affected area. Additional crews stood by while awaiting the arrival of a Halon system technician.

Due to the potential hazards associated with Halon gas, firefighters maintained a safety perimeter and continued atmospheric monitoring throughout the incident. At the conclusion of operations, Air-3 responded to fill SCBA cylinders. All units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours before returning to quarters.
