Deep-Fried Turkey Safety

If you plan on deep frying a turkey latter this week remember to be safe. If you do have a grease fire remember these safety tips Leave the area and call 911 Only if it can be done safely, turn off the heat source (i.e. the burner) if possible Only if it can be done safely, cover the fire. Keep a pan lid handy when cooking with oil or grease and slide it over the pan to cut off the oxygen. If a pan lid isn’t available, soak a towel and ring out the excess water, placing the towel over the pan  Only if it can be done safely, once covered, slide the pan off the heat source if possible. Don’t attempt if there is a chance the pan could tip Do NOT put water on it, water will create a fire

October 2019 Calls for Service

This October the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 responded to 40 calls for service  1 BRUSH FIRE 2 CHIMNEY FIRES 4 CO ALARMS 1 EMS ASSIST 1 ELEVATOR RESCUE 1 EXTRICATION 17 FIRE ALARMS 1 FUEL SPILL 5 GAS LEAKS 1 HELICOPTER LANDING ZONE 1 SMOKE CONDITIONS 3 SMELLS OF SMOKE As always, the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

FBI K-9 Drill At Liberty State Park

Yesterday Company 1’s dive team along with the North Jersey Dive Task Force the spent the day at Liberty State Park providing dive support to the FBI and other any many other agencies during their K9 Maritime Drill. This drill was intended to get the dogs acclimated to moving boats while performing their duties. This was a large drill that included the FBI, Mahwah Fire, the North Jersey Dive Task Force, Lyndhurst Dive Team, Wyckoff Fire Dept, Parsippany Rescue and recovery, Jersey City FD, the Coast Guard, and many other agencies spread out across Liberty State Park, the Statue of Liberty and Randal’s Island.

August 2019 Calls For Service

September 11th

18 years later our actions as firefighters serve as a reminder that in the darkest days there is good in the world. As posted last week the Mahwah FD Exempt Association continues to put out the flags to honor the sacrifices made. Tomorrow we remember all those lost in the attack of September 11, 2001 at 7pm. 287 South Truck Fire

At around 3:30 this morning Mahwah Fire responded to Route 287 South for a truck fire. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and overhaul the affected contents we were joined by our colleagues at Mahwah EMS, firefighters from Allendale, Ramsey, and Hillburn who assisted at the scene and stood by at our firehouses during the call.
