Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Bergen County Regional SCUBA Task Force

This month Company 1’s Dive Team along with teams from Lyndhurst, Oradell, Wallington and the Bergen County Sheriff officially formed the Bergen County Regional SCUBA Task Force. The task force will respond to calls for evidence recovery, search and rescue/recovery, ice rescue, and also boat operation. We are looking forward to working with our colleagues at these departments and would like to thank everyone for their time and effort that went into this.Click here for the press release from the Bergen County Sheriff

Mahwah Fire Department History: Ford Plant

It can be argued that the event that changed Mahwah from sleepy agricultural hamlet to what it is today was the opening of the Ford Plant. Many of our firefighters worked for Ford or the related industries. Some were even part of the fire brigade located on site.

January 2018 Calls for service

This January Company 1 responded to 33 calls for service. This month there were 3 dispatched structure fires, 2 elevator rescues, 3 extrications, 13 fire alarms, 6 gas leaks, 1 oil spill, 1 oven fire, 1 stand-by, 2 working fires, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Drill Night: Ice Rescue Training

Mahwah Fire Department History: Equipment Donation

In 1968 Mahwah FD received a donation of the latest rescue technology from the NW Bergen Board of Realtors. Accepting the Porta Power Unit from the Officers of the Board of Realtors (Jack Levine and Frank Dator) are Assistant Chief Don Vilmar and FF’s Dave Meester and John Deming.
