Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

MFD Turns 105 This Year and The 75th Anniversary Of The Township Of Mahwah

The Mahwah Fire Department turns 105 this year. An even bigger Anniversary is the 75th Anniversary of the Township of Mahwah! The creation of the MFD had a significant impact in Northwest Bergen County. It began the formation of what would become the township. In the 1920’s the fire department built the first municipal building at 100 Miller Rd (today still in use as Mahwah Fire Co. 1). The ground floor was the fire department. The top floor the courtroom. The basement the police department and jail.  With government infrastructure in place it took 30 years after the MFD but The Township of Ho Ho Kus became incorporated as the Township of Mahwah through an act of the NJ State Legislature after a vote in the municipal election on November 7, 1944. This January the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 Responded To 42 Calls For Service 1 Boiler Issue 1 Brush Fire 3 Burning Smell 1 Carbon Monoxide Alarm 1 Dispatched Structure Fire 4 EMS Assists 1 Elevator Rescue 21 Fire Alarms 3 Gas Leaks 4 Smoke Conditions 1 Working Fire 1 Vehicle Fire As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Route 17 Truck Fire

Tonight Firefighters from Companies 1, 2, 3 and also EMS responded to Route 17 South for truck fire. After arriving, firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and overhaul the affected contents.
