Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Indian Hollow Court Rescue

At around 8:40 this morning Rescue 1 responded to Indian Hollow Court after a person had fallen from a tree and landed down an embankment. After arriving on scene Rescue 1 worked with Mahwah EMS to secure the person and bring them up to the ambulance. Shortly afterward the person was transported to an area hospital and Rescue 1 returned to quarters.

Wyckoff Avenue Smoke Condition

At around 12:30 last night fire companies 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded to Wyckoff Avenue for a smoke condition. After a brief investigation, the cause was determined to be burnt food. Not long after all crews began to return to quarters.

Plane Crash Drill And Helping The Boy Scouts

This morning members of Rescue 1’s Dive Team joined departments from around Rockland County NY for a simulated plane crash on the Hudson River. Rescue 1’s divers worked to recover victims from the plane that had ‘crashed’ into the Hudson by the Piermont Pier. While this was going on Rockland County firefighters extinguished a fire and EMS tended to other victims from the crash. After the drill Rescue 1 helped the Boy Scouts place an artificial island into Winter’s Pond.

Suffern Stand-by

Firefighters from Company 1 are currently standing by in Suffern NY, while Suffern FD operates at a house fire.

May 2018 Calls for service

This May Company 1 responded to 19 calls for service. This month there were 3 burning smells, 3 dispatched structure fires, 2 ems assists, 2 elevator rescues, 8 fire alarms, and 1 gas leak. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.
