Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Darlington Ave Entrapment

At around 12:30 this afternoon Rescue 1 along with Fire Companies 2 and 4 responded to Darlington Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene members of Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle and worked to extricate the driver. After the driver was removed from the vehicle they were transported to an area hospital by Mahwah EMS.

June 2018 Call for service

This June Company 1 responded to 37 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 1 burning smell, 4 dispatched structure fire, 1 set of down utility wires, 6 EMS assists, 1 elevator rescue, 16 fire alarms, 3 gas leaks, 1 mutual aid request for a fire, 1 oven fire, 1 smoke condition, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Giovanni Pertuz

The officers and members of Company 1 are heartbroken to learn of the passing of current Mahwah Co 2 President Giovanni Pertuz. Gio was a dedicated fireman, husband, and Father of two great kids. Funeral Services will be Monday, July 30th from 1-4 and 6-9pm at Gentiles Funeral Home in Hackensack with a fire department service at 730pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 31st at 1030am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with a Burial to follow at Mary Rest Cemetery. Please keep Gio, his wife and children, and the entire Mahwah Fire Department in your prayers during this most difficult time.

Drill Night: Torches

Lightning Strike

At around 12:30 last night Fire Companies 1, 2, 3, & 4 responded to Faulkner Court for a burning smell inside of a home. After investigating, Mahwah Fire found that the home had been struck by lightning. After ensuring the home, as well as the neighbors, were safe Mahwah Fire begin to return to quarters at around 2 a.m.

Drill Night: Vehicle Extrication

Last night at our weekly drill Company 1 members went to the fire academy to practice their extrication skills. In addition to using the jaws of life, members also spent time learning to use other tools such as grinders and air tools. Think you would like to join us?
