Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Drill Night: Ramapo River Diving

Our drill this week divers and tenders practiced their skills in the Ramapo River. Diving is a dangerous and skilled task that Company 1 members must be proficient as, as we are part of the Bergen County and also the North Jersey scuba task forces and can be called a moment’s notice to recover a victim or evidence located in our area’s waterways.  Think you would like to join us? Dust Collector Fire

This afternoon Mahwah Fire and EMS responded to Route 17 for a fire inside of a building’s dust collector. While firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which had been contained to the collector, others entered the building to ensure that the fire had not spread into the building and also to remove the smoke.

Drill Night: Playground Search

Last night at our weekly drill, Company 1 Firefighters practiced their search techniques at one of our local playgrounds. This helped to practice searching through obstacles, confined spaces, and also helping other firefighters all of which could be present during an actual search for potential victims in a fire.
