Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

January 2020 Calls For Service

This January Fire Company 1 responded to 26 calls for service 1 Electrical Issue 2 EMS Assists 12 Fire Alarms 8 Gas Leaks 1 Burning Utility Pole 2 Smoke Conditions As always, the 100% volunteer members of Mahwah Fire are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Ice Diving

This weekend members of Rescue 1’s dive team went to upstate New York learn how to safely dive under a frozen lake. Diving under the ice is an extremely hazardous task that requires specialized equipment and training that not all divers and dive teams are equipped for. This training allows our dive team to respond to emergencies, evidence recoveries, and other calls for service on the frozen lakes in our area.

Volunteers Are Always Training

Each year the completely volunteer members of Company 1 spend countless hours training, most of which takes place on at our weekly drills on Wednesday nights. But many members spend more time, including weekends and taking time off from their jobs to complete advanced training courses. This December the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 responded to 32 calls for service 1 Runaway Boiler 1 Carbon Monoxide Alarms 5 Dispatched Structure Fires 1 Dryer Fire 1 Extrication 15 Fire Alarms 5 Gas Leaks 1 Smell of Smoke 1 Working Fire As always, the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.
