Drill Night: Cribbing Jenga

At this week’s drill Company 1 firefighters worked with the Hurst Tools or more commonly known as the Jaws of Life. Firefighters used the tools to remove pieces of cribbing and place them on top of the tower. This drill allows the firefighters to practice their tool handling and maneuvering skills. June 2019 Calls For Service

This June the volunteer firefighters of Company 1 responded to 31 calls for service 1 Carbon Monoxide Alarm 1 Dispatched Structure Fire 1 EMS Assist 2 Elevator Rescues 17 Fire Alarms 6 Gas Leaks 1 Mutual Aid Request for a Fire Alarm 1 Mutual Aid Request for a Rescue 1 Smoke Condition As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Drill Night: Flashover

Tonight Mahwah Firefighters went to the Bergen Fire Academy for flashover training. Simply put a flashover is when the gases inside of burning room suddenly ignite. This is an extremely dangerous situation for firefighters to be in and may only leave them with a few seconds to get out of the area. This can be simulated at the academy and allows firefighters to learn the signs that one is imminent and what to do in that situation.
