This weekend members of Rescue 1’s dive team went to upstate New York learn how to safely dive under a frozen lake. Diving under the ice is an extremely hazardous task that requires specialized equipment and training that not all divers and dive teams are equipped for. This training allows our dive team to respond to emergencies, evidence recoveries, and other calls for service on the frozen lakes in our area.
Each year the completely volunteer members of Company 1 spend countless hours training, most of which takes place on at our weekly drills on Wednesday nights. But many members spend more time, including weekends and taking time off from their jobs to complete advanced training courses.
