Residing at 100 Miller Rd., Mahwah, NJ, Co No. 1 has proudly served the residents of Mahwah NJ with professionalism, dedication and above all, a domineering volunteer spirit since 1914.

Today, Co No. 1, has 6 pieces of emergency apparatus and the members of Company No. 1 specialize in the area of technical rescue which includes calls such as building and trench collapse, elevator rescues,  motor vehicle accidents, and confined space emergencies. Co No. 1 allows provides water rescue capabilities in the form of our Swift Water and Dive Rescue teams. Co No. 1’s Dive Rescue team is a leading dive team in northern NJ and is a member of the NJ Regional SCUBA Task Force.

We currently house two class A pumpers, two heavy rescue trucks, a rescue support pickup, collapse and confined space trailers and three boats, to include the only fanboat in the tri-state area.

Winter Terrace Smoke Condition

At around 7:30 tonight companies 1, 2, 3, and EMS North responded to Winter Terrace for a smoke condition in the garage. After arriving on scene Engine 117 (OIC C. Darby) searched the home for the cause of the smoke. After investigating it was determined that smoke was coming from a faulty garage door opener.

May Call Break down

This month Company 1 responded to a total of 23 calls. There were 9 fire alarms, 2 CO alarms, 1 brush fire, 2 grill/oven fires, 2 smells of gas/smoke, 1 extrication, 2 EMS assists, and dispatched to 4 structure fires.

Overturned Tractor Trailer

At around 4PM Rescue 1 along with Companies 2, 4, EMS North and Tallman Rescue responded to the 287 flyover for an overturned tractor-trailer with a trapped person. Rescue 1 and Tallman Rescue stabilized the truck and then extricated the driver. 

Multi-Agency Dive Drill

Today members of Company 1’s dive team held a multi-agency drill at the Ramapo Reservation. Dive Teams from Mahwah, Lyndhurst, Oradell, Ringwood, and Wallington spent the morning diving and training together.
