Company 1 members spent today escorting Santa around the Cragmere section of town. Thank you to everyone who came out to meet and take pictures with Santa, we had a great turnout this year and are looking forward to seeing everyone again.
At around 1:45 this afternoon Mahwah Fire responded to Suffern NY for house fire. Mahwah Firefighters went to both the fire and also stood by in one of Suffern’s Firehouses to assist if any other calls for service came in while Suffern fighters were extinguishing the blaze.

Company 1 members are always helping others, typically it’s our community but other times we get help our neighboring fire departments. Tonight Company 1 members are standing by in Ramsey providing fire and rescue coverage while Ramsey Fire and Ramsey Rescue march in the annual Ramsey Holiday Parade.
Starting at around 6:30 this morning Rescue 1 along with Fire Companies 2, 4, and EMS responded to 287 South for a car crash with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene members Rescue found a car has crashed into the back of a tractor trailer. Rescue 1 worked for close to an hour to remove the driver from the car who was then transported to an area hospital. Later after the snow storm had started Fire Companies 1 and 3 responded to Masonicus Road for a car fire. After arriving on scene members Mahwah Fire found the car was fully involved in fire, the driver had already exited the vehicle. Fire Companies 1 and 3 then worked to extinguish the fire and ensure that it was out.

Company 1 members are always training, many times giving up part of their weekends to complete advanced training. This weekend company 1 members took part in an elevator rescue class where firefighters learned how to safely remove passengers from a disabled elevator. At around 11:45 last night Fire Company 1 responded to Franklin Turnpike for a fire alarm. When firefighters arrived they found a heavy smoke condition inside the building, and called for additional firefighters. As crews searched the building they found that an unattended stove was causing the smoke. After shutting off the stove and removing the smoke firefighters began to return to quarters.

For tonight’s drill Fire Company 1 went to the Bergen fire Academy to practice our skills with fighting a vehicle fire. This vehicle was one of the department’s old and out of service support vehicles, since this was a real vehicle and not a prop, we were able to simulate a situation that we may encounter. At around 645 this Moring Mahwah Fire responded to Spruce Road for a report of smoke in a home. The first arriving units found a small fire in the utility room and quickly extinguished it. After overhauling the area and confirming that the fire was completely extinguished, firefighters began to return to quarters. Later just before 4pm Recue 1 responded to Route 202 for a car accident with an entrapped occupant. After arriving on scene firefighters from Rescue 1 worked to extricate the occupant who then transported via helicopter to an area hospital.

Today members from Rescue 1’s dive team trained with K-9 search teams from Eagle Valley Search Dogs and also Ringwood’s dive team. These dogs and their handlers are trained to search for missing and deceased people on both land and also in water.
