Who founded our department and why? In 1914, spurred by two major disasters, a 7-store business district blaze and the Erie Railroad station fire, township residents decided to form their own formal fire department. Instigators in this movement were Warren Ackerman, Walter Finch, and Millard Cooper (pictured) who met formally with 10 other men December 28th 1914. Some semblance of a local organization was in in existence about 1910 but it was not until May, 1 1915 that 25 men chartered the first official department. Company 1 is currently accepting junior (16 years old) and probationary members. No experience is necessary, all training and equipment will be provided. If you are interested feel free to stop by Wednesday nights at 7:30pm or you can email us at info@mfdco1.org

This afternoon Rescue 1 and Fire Company 2 responded to Route 202 and Route 17 for a motor vehicle accident with an entrapped driver. Once on scene Rescue 1 worked quickly to free the patient by removing the driver’s door. After he was freed, the driver was transported to an area hospital.

This month Company 1 responded to 32 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 1 EMS assist, 1 extrication, 13 fire alarms, 1 helicopter landing zone, 3 requests for mutual aid, 2 smells of natural gas, 5 smells of smoke, 1 smell of gasoline, 1 call for burning wires, we were dispatched to 1 structure fire and we responded to 2 working fires.

Yesterday Company 1 members escorted Santa around the Cragmere section of town. Thank you to everyone who came out to meet and take pictures with Santa. 

Company 1 firefighters will be escorting Santa around the Cragmere section of town this Saturday, December 5, starting at around 9am. Come out and meet Santa when you hear us by your home.
