At around 2 a.m. this morning Rescue 1 and Fire Company 2 responded to the Sheraton Hotel for an elevator rescue. Once on scene Rescue 1 found that two children were trapped in the elevator which was stuck between floors. Due to the location of the elevator car and where the access to the shaft was, the decision was made to lower a member from Rescue 1 down the shaft on to the car to retrieve the children. 

After being lowered onto the car Rescue 1 secured the children into a harness and then raised them individually up the shaft to Rescue’s location above the car. After the children were brought out of the elevator shaft they were checked over by Mahwah EMS and then released to their parents. By 3:30 Rescue 1 and Company 2 returned to quarters.
